National Sport Day

Public health and fitness are concerns facing many developed and developing nations. The introduction of National Sport Day in 2011, and the Qatar National Vision 2030, demonstrate the commitment of His Highness, The Amir, to the health and wellness of the Qatari people.

Each year, we execute a unique National Sport Day event in Aspire or Katara. Please find below each year’s National Sports Day event concepts:

Koora Time National Sport Day 2019

27,000 participants. A record 27,000 visitors flocked to Katara to celebrate National Sport Day; they took part in the many fun-filled family activities organised by Qatar Football Association (QFA) and Qatar Shell, as part of their award-winning Koora Time programme. The Koora Time event, which took place from 8am to 6pm at Katara, was aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle and diet among Qatar’s youth. And, as the massive number of attendees demonstrated, it was a resounding success. The event opened with the Asian Federation Cup trophy on display, to the surprise of visitors, who celebrated Qatar’s successful journey throughout the tournament, to secure the title for the first time.

Koora Time National Sport Day 2018

8000 participants. An all-day event from 8am-6pm, which was open to everyone, with no pre-registration required. Each activity was football focused, non-competitive and designed to be fun for all ages.

Koora Time ‘Run to Win’ National Sport Day 2016

4000 participants. 70 teams competed in the ‘Run to Win’ tournament − an all-day football match, where the goal at the end of the day is not to win or lose, but to take the most steps and burn the most calories.

Koora Time ‘Winner Stays On’ National Sport Day 2015

4500 participants. 76 teams competed in the ‘Winner Stays On’ tournament. Qualifying consisted of a sudden-death knock-out; if you lose, you are out! The top 7 teams then progressed to a ‘Winner Stays’ round. Teams played 5 games; if they win, they’re promoted, if they lose, they’re relegated. The team that won the most games qualified to play in the finals.
